Autumn Cleaning – Day 27

Day 27 Whole House – 3

Clean tiles with mild detergent and clean water, using a rag or chamois-type mop rather than a sponge mop. The latter pushes dirty water into grout lines and makes them harder to clean.
Be sure to change the water frequently while mopping; dirty water equals a cloudy floor.

The real secret to a great-looking tile floor is clean grout. Grout is porous and absorbs grease and other stains.
Skip commercial cleaners and instead make a paste of baking soda and water.

1. Make a paste of baking soda and water. Mix 3 parts of baking soda to 1 part water to make a thick paste. …
2. Make a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. …
3. Wait for the solution to stop bubbling. …
4. Scrub the grout lines with a brush. … let it sit overnight, then scrub the stain in the morning with a stiff nylon brush (a metal brush will damage the grout). Repeat as necessary.
5. Mop the floor with plain water.
6. Apply a silicone-base sealer to the grout to repel future stains.
